How Thermal Pollution Can Be Controlled

January 17, 2020

Climate change is starting to build up. But every one of us can contribute to slow down or even stop it. And it's even easier than you think!

We, as humans, are one of the main reasons for climate change. The consequences are the melting of polar ice, the extinction of species, devastating forest fires and much more that is gradually destroying our earth. We all know that there are many good reasons to do something about climate change. For example:

  • to avoid a sea-level rise or to reduce the melting of the Alpine glaciers
  • to mitigate extreme weather events such as hurricanes, tornadoes and heat waves
  • to reduce the risk that two to three billion people are at risk of a foreseeable water and food shortage

The great thing: You don't have to be a superhero to make a significant contribution. Everyone can do something about climate change - with measures for which you don't even have to restrict yourself.

Fortunately, there are countless ways to save a few of our climate packages. For example, when consuming, when on the go, when living. Even with small, simple measures such as LED lamps or power strips that you don't notice in everyday life. Or with more substantial actions such as a more climate-friendly heating system that helps to save a pound of emissions every day. The bottom line is: every little bit brings something. Every day too. Reason enough to start today.

1. MAKE AN A +++

Also part of climate protection: save electricity. The old fridge from your studies certainly brings back beautiful memories of the past. For a more climate-friendly future, you should replace it when possible. Then you still have a refrigerator, but one that may only consume half as much energy. If you also do without a freezer option and maybe choose it one size smaller, it is even cheaper - for you and the climate.

2. GIVE BAGS A BASKET

Each plastic bag is made from oil and generates 31 kilograms of CO2. Going to the supermarket checkout with a shopping basket or bag is worth it. Especially when you consider that we only use a bag on average for 25 minutes, but it takes centuries to rot. Not to mention that small plastic particles in the bag may end up in the stomach of marine animals.

3. SWITCH FASTER

Doing something for a more climate-friendly future with foresight is particularly useful for driving: by driving ahead. If you avoid unnecessary braking and starting, you need up to a quarter less fuel and therefore less money. When starting, shift up in time (at around 2,000 rpm), save again and do no harm to the engine.
